Castleisland Desmonds involvement in The Bainisteoiri Competition contributed in no uncertain manner to

Their victory over Tarbert senior team in round nine of the County league played at Castleisland on

Sunday evening last. Desmonds played like a team that were trained to peak fitness and outclassed

Tarbert  through most of the game. Desmonds opened the scoring with two points and midway through the half Tarbert were on equal terms with two points from John Kelleher, their only contribution in that half.

Desmonds chalked up three further points to leave the half time score Desmonds  0-05  Tarbert  0-02

Desmonds were first off the mark in the second half with a point to give them a four point lead. Points from

Stephen O Connor, John Kelleher and Kevin Wren for Tarbert reduced the lead to a single point, but from there on Desmonds fitness told and they ran out eight unanswered points to leave the full time score

County lg. V Currow

Tarbert senior team returned to their winning ways with a three point victory over Currow  in a close fought encounter in round eight of the County league (division 2) at Shannon park last Sunday afternoon. Stephen O Connor opened the scoring for Tarbert to be followed by a well taken goal by John Kelleher when he intercepted a long range ball from Ambrose Lanigan and dispatched to the Currow net. Denis Kiely stretched Tarbert’s lead further with a point  before Currow replied with points from Daniel O Shea and Pa McCarthy. Stephen O Connor and Kevin Wren were on the mark for Tarbert with points before Currow struck a purple patch and had four points in succession  to bring them with a point of Tarbert. A point from Stephen O Connor gave Tarbert a two point cushion at half time on a score of Tarbert 1-05  Currow  0-06.

Stephen O Connor and Johnny Buckley exchanged points at the start of the second half and Stephen o Connor was on the mark again with a pointed 45. Two points for Currow brought them to within one point of Tarbert for the second time but Tarbert finished stronger and points from Ambrose Lanigan and John Kelleher secured a well earned victory for the home side on a score of  Tarbert   1-09  Currow  0-09. Some long range points by Stephen O Connor were a feature of the game and he was ably supported by John Kelleher, Ambrose Lanigan

and Deo O Connor. Goalkeeper Donncha Enright , with some spectacular saves also contributed handsomely to this victory.

County League V Kilcummin

Tarbert Senior team had a four point deficit in their round seven game away to Kilcummin on Saturday evening last. They were in the lead at half time by the minimum , five points to four and increased this lead to two points mid way through the second half, with a score of seven points to five. However the team failed to maintain the momentum and finished the game on a scoreline of Kilcummin 0-12 Tarbert 0-08. The team and scorers were as follows  Donncha Enright, Steve Deenihan (0-03), Deo O Connor, Danny Wren, Jason Wren, Ambrose Lanigan, Jimmy Holly, Kieran Deenihan (0-02), Kevin Wren, Stephen O Connor, Ian Flavin (0-01), Denis Kiely, Sean McGinley, Donal Leahy, John Kelleher (0-01) Substitute who played  Gavin O Donnell.

   

Nth.Kerry Lge.Final

North Kerry league Division one final.

Brosna secured their first ever North Kerry League victory at the expense of Tarbert in a thrilling contest played at Duagh on Sunday evening 18th July. In the opening minutes of the game both sides exchanged points but Brosna then hit a purple patch scoring a goal (penalty) and four points in succession before Tarbert regained their composure. A point from Stephen O Connor and two from Ambrose Lanigan brought Tarbert back in to the game.Two points from Brosna and three from Tarbert left the half time score Brosna 1-07 Tarbert 0-07. On resumption Tarbert were rapidly on level terms with a goal from Donal Leahy punched to the net from a long delivery from Sean McGinley. A point from John Kelleher put Tarbert in front but the lead was quickly cancelled out with a goal and two points for Brosna. A point from Denis Kiely and one from Stephen O Connor kept Tarbert in touch but six further points for Brosna to two for Tarbert clinched victory for Brosna  on  a final score of Brosna  2-15  Tarbert 1-12.

County Lge v Castlegregory

Tarbert Senior team were defeated by the minimum in round six of The County League at Shannon Park on Saturday evening 26th June. Both sides exchanged points before Castlegregory took a four point lead from a pointed free and a penalty.Tarbert held the opposition scoreless for the next twenty minutes during which   time they levelled the game with four points. Castlegregory scored just one further point to Tarbert's three to give Tarbert a two point cushion at half time on a score of Tarbert 1-08 Castllegregory 1-03. Castlegregory levelled matters within minutes of the second hlalf and it was nip and tuck for the next twenty five minutes with Tarbert two points to the good approaching normal time. Then disaster struck with Castlegregory finishing to Tommy Barrett's net from a very dubious hand pass.That gave Castlegregory a one point lead which they increased to two with a point. Tarbert rallied and a Donal Leahy point left the minimum between the sides.  Tarbert had chances to at least force a draw but lady luck was not on their side and they finished the game one point adrift on a final score of  castlegregory 2-09   Tarbert  0-14
